Computer crime center opens

Think it's a coincidence that cybercrime and terrorism are in the same paragraph ? I sure as hell don't. I still say, cyber-terrorism is complete shit. Hell, most people online attack to make a point.. Not scare society. Willing to bet that if these so called cyber terrorism instances  weren't even mentioned that it wouldn't make any change and no one would know ? I am. Defacing a site isn't terrorism (kids trying to look powerful and special). Nor are DoS attacks (that's more like sabotaging). Let me think.. stalking ? Well, that's as close as it gets.. but that's not society. Those are individuals. And most likely not random either.

If this article shows anything.. it's that most people are ignorant.. oh, and let's not forget the economy.. if there were no security threats.. what would security guys do ? The economy would drop. :) Err, well, it would if the government said it would.. or if other events that aren't related to this would cause it.. the same rules apply in many other incidents.. but somehow it doesn't apply here.. *coughs*

The state's new computer-crime center signals greater cooperation
between federal and state police, which is key to the future of the
FBI, its director said Tuesday.

Robert Mueller helped officially open the S.C. Computer Crime Center
at a St. Andrews area office building.

The $5.6 million center, where more than a dozen state and federal
agents will use the latest technology, is the nation's first statewide
cybercrime lab. It also will be used to fight terrorism.

"I see this as a model here in South Carolina -- not only in the cyber
arena but as a model for law enforcement across the country," Mueller
said.

"The future of the FBI will be successful only to the extent that we
are successful in establishing close and abiding relationships with
our law enforcement counterparts," Mueller said. "If we cannot work
together, we will fail."

Mueller and other dignitaries credited Sen. Fritz Hollings, D-S.C.,
for getting the federal money to establish the center. Similar labs
are in New York City, San Diego and in metropolitan north Texas.

Hollings, chairman of a Senate budget subcommittee, said the money is
"not a political handout. This will save money like gangbusters" by
coordinating investigations.

Mueller is breaking through the FBI's "smugness" by pushing for closer
ties between FBI agents and local police officers, Hollings said.

"We'll have resources from SLED, the FBI, the Secret Service, the
Customs Service, the Postal Service and others, all in one computer
lab,'' he said. "The result will be a one-stop shop for investigating
computer crimes."

He said there are 170 million computers in the United States and 580
million worldwide. Robbers can raid bank accounts without leaving
home.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said the lab has helped him on
three cases. In one, analysts retrieved information from a hard drive
a Newberry specialist thought was lost.

Foster expects a heavy demand on the center from local police.

Since July, agents at the center have worked 711 cases, said Lt. Chip
Johnson, the SLED agent who runs the facility. Last year, SLED's
smaller computer lab worked 331 cases, Johnson said.

Most cases have been for child exploitation, Internet fraud and
identification theft.

The center will have 18 state and federal agents and assistants,
Johnson said. Postal and Customs agents will work there part-time.

The 8,500-square-foot center -- nine times larger than SLED's unit --
is near state FBI headquarters off Interstate 26.

The center's terminals can analyze in an hour what used to take
several hours, Johnson said, sorting quickly through mountains of
information and tracking key evidence from bank transfers, to e-mails
or phone calls.

Agents also have portable computers to copy and read electronic
evidence in the field. Some have powerful Palm Pilots to use in court
to present evidence.

The center and its training room with 38 terminals have "the latest,
most sophisticated equipment to do the job,'' Johnson said.

Assistant Lexington County Sheriff Tim James said training for local
police is one of the best things about the center.

okay now this is just plain irritating. Come on, terrorism??? I mean, they are blowing this waaaay out of proportion. Sure, there is a need for security. Definitely, but its like they are trying to blow it up bigger than it is by use of the term terrorism. From cybercrime to cyberterrorism. Thats just pure unadulterated stupidity.  Attacks have been going on for who knows how long. Those refrences are totally crap and show the ingnorance of those who are completely and totally uninformed.
Much like itttech trying to have a "Security" degree, bachelors no less. By the way, rumor has it the sites owner is being sued. Funny if the tripple k can have their own website, then why cant some students who feel as if they got ripped off?
Case freakin closed man...

heh..

Other schools have had issues with the law too.

WARNING: This message is not only a long rant, it also reveals some serious problems in the US. Take extra care when in America for now. America isn't the most powerful nation in every aspect. Sad but so true. Oh, and there is some swearing here.

But anyways, it is, again, sensationalism. It's almost as if the gov't is looking for a reaction. And then they will use that for support. I think I read somewhere that the morons who signed the Homeland Security Act into law didn't even bother to read it. Of course, that could be false.. but, why, after all the lies they've made, should I believe them ? I have no doubt that the morons didn't care. They just wanted to solve a problem that in some ways don't even exist.. and certainly not on the Internet. And they are so fucking blind and ignorant, that they can't see how this is a problem. They also hear things and read things and believe it as if it is total truth. Uh, hello ? Everyone else are completely clueless and are only looking for a reaction. That reaction could be support, encouragement, or better yet -- a paycheck. Would be nice if a lot of folks down here (that is, the underground) would tell every writer how fucking stupid they are. But not many people do that. Another nice thing would be opening lawsuits for libel and on TV -- slander.

And now, because of all these lies and ignorance, the population is really in a big mess. No privacy pretty much, no rights, etc. And that was limited to begin with. I truly believe that 'Constitutional Rights' is an oxymoron. It is full of loopholes and lies.

Basically anything can be turned into being a conspiracy or terrorism or who knows what else. I mean the cyber murder issue, and many other things. Just talking about a crime (has been like this but now it's worse) can be considered a conspiracy to commit the criminal act. And it is in my opinion that because everyone is so involved with the Internet and are so scared and throwing garbage about, that more and more are going to want to try to cripple a resource society has grown to almost need. Good job folks, good job. I'm still curious to know how long it is before *EVERYONE* is monitored on the Internet. Before profiling begins on everyone, etc. And I'm wondering when typing 'terrorism' or 'murder' or 'hack' or 'hacking' or numerous other words through cables and wires will be considered conspiracy or terrorism. I have no doubt that if we continue to have the outlook we do now that this will eventually happen. Rights are non-existant in a lot of ways, and it is getting exponentially worse. I am also wondering when giving someone a serial number to software is also called terrorism. Many other concerns too.

Now more than ever, encryption should be used. Hopping should be done. Protect yourself.. fuck the rest; that's what they all think anyhow so might as well join them.

Really, the media, gov't and society are so corrupt it scares me. I don't know if there is a solution but I would sure like to see one.

And let's not forget that Bush is not the only moron responsible (though he is a big part of it). Congress is a problem too. News networks are. Most institutions are. To those who decide to vote (I am allowed to take part but I won't for certain reasons).. don't vote for Bush again.

Bush says the terrorists aren't successful... but the truth is, they are. Thousands died and the WTC was demolished and the Pentagon was damaged. On top of that, the country is a mess. What, with all these new laws, thinking, fears, etc. The economy is kind of poor too. And let's not forget Iraq and their supposed (true or not I do not know) weapons of mass destruction. All of this, and the terrorists aren't successful ? That is not true at all. The country is in a total mess. The terrorists are getting somewhere. Bush thinks he is succeeding but the truth is, you can't win in this. There is no true definition... there is no way to take them out. Even if you take ALL out today, there will be more tomorrow. So it will be a never ending battle/fued.. kind of like the Israelis and Palestinians.. who have battled each other for decades.. but why ? It's stupid but it's there. So we are destined to live in it. Live with fear.. (some) live with a horrible memory of that day... future attacks.. Don't trust the gov't (esp. Bush) to protect you. If they could (assuming they really wanted to) then the WTC would not be gone.. those lives would not be gone.. The memories would not be there.. The shock to (most) people would not be remembered either.. Don't make the mistake of trusting them anymore. It will be the beginning of the end.

Thanks a lot you moronic government.. for pissing so many countries and people off... for trying to police the world.. for being so egotistical... for lying, stealing, manipulating. You think conspiring is wrong. Then arrest yourself. You are talking about war with Iraq. By the US's definition (or how they interpret it when they want), that IS CONSPIRING (right or wrong is not an issue here). Damn hypocrites. Go ahead and fire a nuclear weapon.. it'll be the end of the world. Maybe that is good, maybe that is bad. I don't know and I don't care. But the more you do, the more you will anger them and the more attacks you will attract. The US is not the best place. It has good things, but it so corrupt and dangerous for so many people that it doesn't matter. You can have good things and bad things.. but they often can't live together. History proves that one. Perhaps the best place is some Ethereal.. where no harm can be inflicted on others.. Or maybe just death. I don't know. We'll all find out one day I guess.

Help put a stop to this self destructive path. Before it's too late...

There are serious issues at state now and these are just a small bit of them. I know I kind of went OT but I think it makes for an interesting post.

What does everyone else think ? I do not think I'm being unreasonable. Then again, I think that about my thinking in general and many would say I am totally out of line. Oh well, that's life. Least I'm not afraid to express my beliefs and feelings.

Oh, and Zero... this terrorism stuff has been going on for at least since that day last year.. but I do believe quite a bit longer. It's just it's gotten much worse now as Bush gets more and more ignorant and listens to people and thinks he knows what he is talking about and whatever else he believes. Him and everyone else who is part of this crap.

Oh and as a little document directly from the DoJ about encryption. From what I remember, they were contradicting themselves, and were trying to hide their true beliefs and motives: They do not want most people using encryption because they are afraid of the unknown. Hell, they even said they think there should be some kind of backdoor. That shouldn't be included in something that is locked like that. Basically they want everyone else from spying on others' stuff.. except of course, themselves. Again, kind of like they have hidden motives. Uh oh.. there's that conspiracy again !

Comments on that ?

i have only 1 question (prob more :-] ) where the hell is the evidence to justify the criminal activities the united states is/have been doing, it is evident that GEORGE W BUSH is a moron even me as a european realizes that maybe even more than some americans do,

lets recap Afghanistan is it good the taliban is ebolished hell yeah! was it justified Afghanistan was attacked NO why? becouse they did not have one shred of evidence to do so, anthrax cases in the US who did it? stil not solved or do they want to solve it realy? or was it merely the us gov to scare the us citizens in suporting bush his goal i stil have my doubts about this anthrax case anyway its not solved and they dont seem to be in a big hurry to do so..

now we have iraq more than 10 years under so called un sanctions wile i know better and its only the us who inforces it more than 500,000 iraqi children have died sofar due to this crime against humanity why all of a sudden attack iraq? wel simple bush cant catch bin laden cant justify anthrax cases cant justify the economy slump so he thinks wat the hell lets just attack iraq we already have afghanistan we could own the oil fields in notime but wat bush is not realizing is that the ppl are not afraid sure some are but the us is fueling anger and not to speak about the UN thats just a bunsh of cowardly puppets and bush holding the strings they surely dont have a spine.

ahh yeah now we also have north korea a country and yes communist country wich does not bother me att all i know how times where during the cold war i seen it all happen in the 80`s with russia is just around the corner where we afraid of the soviet union hell no the us only made them look very bad wile in real life it wasnt that bad bad system communism maybe in our eyes but it sure worked even if we dont agree ,

back to north korea korea signed the nuclear non proliforation treaty its like a contract and as u know contracts are there eighter to abide by it or to break em wel korea did just that and got back to the nuclear projects and why not? they have the same right to do so as do any other country and to be honest i dont blame them after all the united states is becoming the real treath in the world the way i see it with a idiot controlling the cockpit ,

we in europe dont have any fears watso ever u might ask why how come? wel simply we dont let oure government 1 brainwash us with scarymaking stories and 2 we know better then to believe a bunch of public servants becouse thats just wat they are nothing more nothing less and bush is the last person on this earth we believe in a way he does frighten us its the way he is dragging the world into trouble with his obsessions he prob promised his geek dad to get rid of saddam wouldnt surprise me one bit.

do we hate america no noone does we just dont like your government i and love the united states and hope to visit it one day its the country where afterall all nice things come from movies wel u name it

anyway the american ppl should realy think about wat to vote for next term becouse this demon of a president wil only couse havoc to the world

like many wise ppl have told me if i did not see it i dont believe it (evidence)

wel tahts it for me for now just letting you all know my toughts about this mess

and yes i do care wat happened about the ppl in the WTC but who realy was behind it it was never proved only asumptions..

[edit] i forgot all about the cybercrime wel how does it feel to be spied on? yeah thats wat the russians did when it was stil communist ;) night sleep tight and remember big brother is watching you [/edit]
