Ok, so what does everyone think of this article ?

I think it's a really nice read. Interesting and quite good for being 'in the media'.

Also thought it might be nice to get a discussion going, so hopefully it brings up some thoughts. I think it has some 'valuable' lessons as well, about what is good in code, etc.

Well Metty, I had started the article about the time you posted this, but only now have I got around to finishing it! Actually I have to agree with you that this was a nice read. I think that one of the key points that I liked was that the article pointed out the collaborative process inherent in the development of Unix as a system and the way in which a variety of factors (C and the right people at the right time) were necessary for the OS to develop into the powerful tool that we have today. Also the fact that the author skimmed over the Unix wars so to speak and focused on the core germination of the OS was pretty nice as well.
