How do i get past the software restriction on win xp on a network like at a workplace or a school etc. im learning V.B and cant even launch the app to see if it works

you don't have high enough privileges on the machine your working from to run your VB program?
I am not suffering with insanity... I am loving every minute of it.

If the computer you are using is network-based, then I cannot help you.  But, if it is the standard XP startup screen, and it has two users (Administrator and Student, with the Admin account locked), then you have to options:

-on the keyboard, click CTRL-ALT-DEL on the startup screen
This brings you to another screen with two "Lines": a username and a password
-for the username, type in: administrator (maybe with a capital "A")
-then, click "enter"

the administrator usually doesn't have a password on this thus allowing someone who knows how to do this to log in.

And, if all fails, you can just reboot the computer in "safe mode" and click on the administrator.

Hope this helps

PS. Oh, by the way, make sure you have .NET Framework 3.0 or better installed.  If not, you may be able to do this from the administrator account.
