For those of you out there using an Apple, there are plenty of good tools out there for you.  First, from Apple:

X-Code - http://developer.apple.com/  (Development environment for universal binaries)
Chud - http://developer.apple.com/tools/download/  (Great tools for measuring and optimizing hardware performance)

http://www.connect.apple.com -
SDK, Java dev tools, .Mac SDK, FxPlug SDK, gList, gcc updates, and a buttload of other amazing free tools.

After that, try these third party ports:

http://fink.sourceforge.net/download/index.php?phpLang=en
http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/

They have cool utilities, like nmap for Darwin and whatnot.  Also, on a side note, something about this peeves me:

http://developer.apple.com/internet/opensource/opensourcescripting.html

maybe its the fact that apple charges an arm and a leg for their software (iLife costs $80 [that means iTunes, iDvd, iPhoto, and GarageBand]) then pretends like they're all for open source software.  Maybe it's just me...

Anyway, have fun!

Darwinports just makes me smile everytime I use it...

If you're still into the whole math thing, Wilnix, try

http://www.hippasus.com/resources/symmath/maximainstall.html

it's Maxima for Mac OS X.

Also, try

it's gotta ton of stuff that rocks the free world...
