Apple makes Macs run Windows XP

Personally I wonder why anyone would want to ruin wonderful Mac OS X with Windows ... Not that I've used OS X, but it is based on Unix... so, it can't be worse than windows (unless it was based on SCO or something ...)

I just got through flaming a guy about this--well, not precisely.  I think it's a great idea by Apple.  They'll surely get more business when there's an option to run Windows.  However, I'm not sure what the point is--well, kinda.  It's great I suppose.  But, running Windows on hardware it has been running on for years isn't too amazing.  I'd be more interested in a release of Mac OS 10.5 that can be run on a generic PC I put together.  Then I could build it myself instead of letting it rot in some prefabbed case of proprietary Apple design (one huge beef of mine with Apple's stuff is that you can't upgrade the stupid things alot of times--and when you can, you can usually only get the parts from a handful of places for wads of money).

Anyway, I am excited, but still wish Apple would learn to support more generic and general hardware and software.  You may hate me for saying this, but I praise Windows for their ability to be compatible with buttloads of hardware and software.

I agree; I think it'd be a lot more fun to have OS X on a PC. I think it'd be a lot of fun trying to do that too, but of course I'd need OS X to actually try that. And it's true, Win has run on Intel for ages, so it's not nearly as exciting...

I have similar issues with Mac (and any thing that is proprietary).. I think it's probably more stable in some ways (although I doubt as stable as my amd x86 based server), but I hate, hate, hate proprietary stuff. It's why I don't like to buy pre made PCs, also, because sometimes those are harder to upgrade (as opposed to everything bought by itself and then put together). I guess I like choices... and such (it's one reason I love Gentoo -- though I know that Gentoo is a bit much for a lot of people).
