Hey

I was wondering, i know a friend who knows a friend of a friend, who is a friends friend of this friend i know, LOL. Anyway they got a nokia 7610, that is hot property, straight from the box, any way to make this phone untraceable? eg changing the imei number. plz post back asap, leave ur email if u want if dont want to discuss here, i really want this info. thax in advance!

hey,
iv got a sony ericsson k850i. it was blocked by o2 as it was reported stolen, then i found it lol. and now i cant use it as it says inactiave sim. can i change the imei change number thing to make it work again??

If your phone says inactive SIM card, likely you haven't used it in awhile, or perhaps it's expired. You should call your phone service provider and talk to them. You may have to get a new SIM card. Changing your IMEI number will do you no good in this case, and it is needlessly illegal.

The first thing I'd like to say is that it is very difficult, dare I say impossible to make a cell phone untraceable.  This is how it works:

"Your" phone connects to the GSM/DCS/PCS network and gives it its specific IMEI number.  Then the network checks it against a EIR (Equiptment something Register) and does one of four things. 

1. If it's not on there, it drops the connection.
2. If it matches one they can put it on the the blacklist, which disables it from EVER connecting to a GSM/DCS/PCS network.
3. If it matches one it can put it on the greylist, which makes it usable BUT, traces who the phone is registered to in the SIM info and that person can get into a butload of trouble.
4. If it matches one they can give full service.

I don't mean to make it sound hopeless, but it probably isn't going to happen for you.  Anyway, here's my next advice:

Before you do anything to the phone, dial *#06# to get it to display the IMEI number.  Then go to

http://www.numberingplans.com/index.php?goto=imei

and check if it's blacklisted or greylisted or useable (If it doesn't work now, it will be black or greylisted).

If it's greylisted you may not want to turn it on until you crack it (or return it)--you could get the person it's registered to in alot of trouble. 

If it's blacklisted you HAVE to set the IMEI number to one on an EXISTING phone (preferably not greylisted).  This is the difficult step.  I suggest giving up at this point and sticking to a phone you bought.  If you want to continue then there is one option that I know of: buying an IMEI number.

This may sound weird, but there is a trojan for phones with Symbian OS (http://www.linuxsecurity.com/content/view/116782/65/) that disables everything on the phone but it's functionality.  This allows a hacker to steal it's IMEI number at the expence of robbing someone of their phone.  I'm not sure where you can find such an IMEI number, but google around and see what you can find.

I suggest returning the phone.

I visited numberingplans.com and checked my IMEI. It says "Very Likely" and the slider is around the green area. So if the IMEI is blacklisted, will it be around the red area? Or is there some other place that indicates whether the IMEI is blacklisted or not.

You need to get software called SETOOL 3 which is a box that comes with software that connects to your phone then to your pc this software can change the IMEI number of your phone unlock it but it is a very complex piece of equipment that you need a good understanding of and there are many different options to choose from like flashing phone full unlocking of phone which can take upto 72 hours to do and going back and forth once it has done 1 section and another and it is also very expensive it can cost upto £200 for all the equipment I would leave it to the professionals.

If you are unlucky enough to get your phone blocked like I did then you are able to use your phone's IMEI number abroad and therefore you will be able to sell it on ebay to someone abroad or just say works abroad you still get good money back and can get another one with a bit extra cash.

After reading through the entire topic here, I've come to the following conclusion (keep in mind that I am in no way a professional):

- it is possible to change a mobile phone's IMEI number
- if you have another handset, that is not grey- or blacklisted, you can use the IMEI number of this phone during this process

The questions that remains open for me are:

- do I need any kind of special equipment to change the IMEI number or connecting the handset to my computer with a data cable will be enough?
- can I transfer the IMEI number between different brands? eg. I have a 2-3 yrs old Samsung handset that I'm not using anymore, can I transfer its IMEI to a Nokia or other brands?

I have a Nokia N95, that i lost a while ago and got it barred, but later on i found it, if its possible can i use a N95 IMEI number of a friend? or will both of them get blacklisted?

As for your phone, you should probably contact your phone service provider, not an Internet forum.

It is not the imei you must changed it it is the IMSI you most change
beceause if you change your imei they can trace you up from your sim
and the IMSI number is from youre sim
so nobody can fined you and you can't change your IMSI code
only with a program that i don't know(A)
